Ted Burns Humanism in Neurology Award for Professor Jon Stone

Thursday, 23 April, 2020

Professor Jon Stone (Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences) has been awarded the Ted Burns Humanism in Neurology Award from the American Brain Foundation.

Every year the American Brain Foundation celebrates those who have made lasting impressions in the brain disease community. The Ted Burns Humanism in Neurology Award celebrates those who advance the field of neurology, improve patient care and make knowledge more accessible.

Professor Stone was chosen to receive the award as an outstanding educator, researcher and clinician. His advocacy and humanism towards patients with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) have been transformative for the field.

Professor Stone said "It is a tremendous honour to be the first recipient of the Ted Burns Humanism in Neurology Award. With this award, the American Brain Foundation has recognised the need to take people with FND seriously, combining a patient-centred approach with a scientific approach to diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment."

Jane Ranson, Executive Directro of the American Brain Foundation said "Professor Stone's work directly aligns with our philosophy that curing one brain disease will help to cure many. Because of his humble leadership, thoughtful advocay and dedication to those with brain diseases, we are pleased to present this award to Professor Stone"

Jon will receive his award at the American Brain Foundation Virtual Gala Event on Wednesday 29 April at 8 pm ET and (with the time change) he is due to give his acceptance speech at 2.30am (presumably Thursday!). Not quite the same as a lovely dinner in Toronto with colleagues so, to try and compensate a tiny bit, I've dared him to wear his PJ's with a dinner jacket! ;-)
