Dr Emily Sena appointed first Editor-in-Chief at BMJ Open Science

Congratulations to Dr Emily Sena, CAMARADES group, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences on being appointed first Editor-in-Chief at BMJ Open Data. This new journal is dedicated to applying open science principles to preclinical and basic research, with open access, open peer review, and has an open data policy.

Dr Sena's own research focuses on the validity of preclinical studies. She is leader of the international CAMARADES collaboration and a key member of the Edinburgh CAMARADES group led by Professor Malcolm Macleod.

She has taken on the role because of the opportunity to shape a new journal and contribute to the changing landscape of biomedical research reporting. This, Emily believes, will contribute to improving the validity of preclinical research.

BMJ Open Science has a clear focus on methodological rigour with an emphasis on transparency, integrity, and reproducibility of the evidence base in order to improve healthcare.  The scope is broad and covers the whole spectrum of preclinical and translational biomedical research, from study protocols through to original research articles, data descriptor articles and systematic reviews. The research questions addressed must be sound but not necessarily novel, and they must be important and pertinent to human health in a preclinical setting.
