ERUK Edinburgh Doctoral Training Centre - Programme Structure

The ERUK-DTC is a virtual centre with experienced principal investigators researching different, but interlinked, aspects of childhood-onset epilepsies, spread across the University of Edinburgh.  You will register for a PhD in Child Life and Health, but you will be hosted/supervised within the group and or laboratory of Principal Investigators for your own PhD project.

Taught sessions and practical visits

Alongside your 3 year PhD project, you will participate in bespoke taught sessions throughout your PhD which focus on

  • Diagnosis
  • Underlying Biology
  • Treatment
  • Novel Therapies

You will also take part in practical visits to patient clinics, diagnostics laboratories, drug discovery laboratories, and a clinical trials unit.

Throughout you will receive training in public engagement, and in understanding the patient experience through discussions with people with lived experience (people with epilepsy and parents).

Additional training and opportunities

You will also have the opportunity to undertake Institute for Academic Development (IAD) training in a wide range of transferrable skills which will equip you for your future career.
